The Panzerkampfwagen V Panther II was a German protoype conceived late in 1942. This Panther II was to be replacement for the Panther Ausf.D
One Panther II chassis was completed and eventually captured by the U.S.
By early November 1943, Rheinmetall had designed a turret with a narrower front for the Panther II.
After the Panther II project died, a replacement for the Panther Ausf.G, The Panther Ausf.F was conceived.
Centred around a re-designed an improved turret "Schmalturm" with an 8.8 cm Kw.K 43 L/71 gun designed by Daimler-Benz, the Panther Ausf.F variant was intended for production in April 1945.
